Canford Cliffs (foaled 2007 in Ireland) is a Thoroughbred racehorse trained by Richard Hannon. A bay colt by Tagula out of Mrs Marsh, he won the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot as a two year old. After an encouraging third in the 2,000 Guineas, the colt won the Irish equivalent under Richard Hughes. Canford Cliffs subsequently won the St. James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Each time he appeared to have something in hand of high class opponents like Dick Turpin and Rip Van Winkle, despite a small official margin of victory.
Canford Cliffs reappeared in May 2011 as a four-year-old and won the Lockinge Stakes on his first outing.
A deal is close to being concluded for Canford Cliffs to stand at Coolmore Stud when he retires from racing.
On 14 June 2011, Canford Cliffs won the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, defeating 13-time Group One winner Goldikova and giving him his fifth consecutive Group One victory. He came second in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood in late July, losing to the unbeaten three-year-old Frankel. On 4 August 2011 it was announced that Canford Cliffs would be retired to stud due to a leg injury. He will stand at Coolmore Stud.
